Manchester United have reportedly struck a verbal pact to land a £70m European striker who bagged 31 goals and 14 assists this season, setting him up to become Ruben Amorim’s first January arrival.
The club are also said to be pushing hard for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, according to Spanish reports, as they look to reshape their midfield.
United’s current options include Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, and Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes often dropping deeper even though his best work comes higher up the pitch.
Amorim has noted that Mason Mount can fill in deeper as well, but like Fernandes, he thrives most as a No.10, leaving gaps in the team’s double-pivot setup.
With Casemiro and Fernandes forming Amorim’s main duo, Mainoo has slipped to the sidelines and is said to be considering a January move to secure regular minutes for his growth.
Ugarte hasn’t impressed consistently, and with Casemiro’s contract ending this season, United are preparing for a major midfield overhaul.
Reports claim United have already placed a £79m bid for Tchouameni — £62m guaranteed plus £17m in add-ons — but Real Madrid rejected it immediately, viewing him as a key, irreplaceable player under Xabi Alonso.
Despite the refusal, United remain keen and are actively trying to convince the 25-year-old, whose mix of physicality, technique, aerial strength, and defensive skill makes him an ideal Premier League fit and a potentially massive signing if they can pull it off.
