Arsenal are gearing up for a busy January transfer window as sporting director Andrea Berta outlines major squad changes. Reports confirm that five players could be sold, with five possible replacements already on the radar. Club owner Stan Kroenke has reportedly freed up an additional £300 million to strengthen the attack, showing once again that Arsenal are not planning to slow down in their pursuit of domestic and European glory.
The need for reinforcement on the wings is becoming impossible to ignore. Gabriel Martinelli remains Mikel Arteta’s first-choice option on the left, but the team has often struggled whenever the Brazilian is sidelined. The Premier League and Champions League schedule is unforgiving, and Arsenal’s attacking rhythm fades when Martinelli is unavailable — meaning another top-quality winger is an absolute must.
Among the top targets is Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman. After a brilliant season in Serie A and being crowned African Footballer of the Year in 2024, Lookman has drawn interest from multiple clubs. His directness, pace, and knack for cutting inside to support the striker would inject fresh energy into Arsenal’s attack. Lookman’s current form, along with his eagerness to make a move, makes him an attainable yet impactful signing.
Atalanta reportedly turned down offers worth around €45 million last summer, but Lookman even handed in a transfer request, eager to take the next step in his career. If Arsenal are ready to meet the €50 million price tag, they could secure a player who is both in peak form and hungry to prove himself in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
Another name being discussed is Serge Gnabry — a familiar face for Arsenal fans. Now 30 and playing for Bayern Munich, Gnabry has proven his class time and again, winning multiple titles including the Champions League. His consistency in goals and assists, along with his Premier League experience, make him an appealing short-term option.
The biggest obstacle for Bayern is Gnabry’s contract, which expires in June 2026. Unless he agrees to an extension, the club may prefer to sell now rather than risk losing him on a free transfer later. That opens a window for Arsenal to bring back one of their own for a reasonable price — a player who can hit the ground running immediately.
