Manchester United are reportedly preparing a massive £105 million budget to strengthen their squad in the upcoming January transfer window, as manager Rúben Amorim pushes forward with his ambitious rebuild at Old Trafford. The club’s leadership is said to be fully convinced by Amorim’s project and philosophy, prompting them to provide the financial backing needed to reshape the team’s core.
The board’s confidence stems from the steady improvement the team has shown under Amorim’s guidance. Believing he has brought a fresh identity and tactical structure, United’s hierarchy are determined to give him the tools to elevate the squad to a more competitive level both domestically and in Europe. The focus this time is not on star names, but on players who fit the system and philosophy Amorim is trying to instill.
According to multiple reports, the club has already pinpointed two primary targets for the winter market: Oihan Sancet of Athletic Bilbao and Ousmane Diomande of Sporting Lisbon. Both players are seen as crucial components for the next phase of United’s rebuild — one anchoring the midfield, the other fortifying the defence.
Sancet, valued at roughly £60 million, is seen as the creative heartbeat United have been missing in midfield. With his intelligence, composure, and seamless ability to transition between defence and attack, the Spaniard could bring the balance and control Amorim demands. However, his long-term contract with Bilbao, which runs until 2032, may make any potential negotiation difficult in January.
Amorim reportedly believes that Sancet’s versatility would not only help United dominate possession but also provide a steady rhythm to a midfield that has often lacked structure and cohesion. The Portuguese tactician views him as a player who can dictate tempo, link up with attackers efficiently, and reduce the burden on Bruno Fernandes.
Meanwhile, Ousmane Diomande has emerged as the leading defensive target. The 21-year-old Ivorian, with 18 months remaining on his Sporting Lisbon deal, could be available for around £45 million. Known for his anticipation, ball-playing ability, and composure under pressure, Diomande fits Amorim’s preference for defenders who can initiate attacks as well as protect the back line.
Diomande’s potential arrival would also prepare United for life after Harry Maguire, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Amorim sees the young centre-back as a long-term investment — a cornerstone of a more modern, aggressive defensive setup that aligns with his tactical vision.
